So... my rambling problems with Transformers AoE... I think largely where it put me off was the stage setting. Like, the stage was not set for wonder and seeing the world come to life. Or characters youve grown across the franchise with. It starts with the wholesale slaughter of these beloved characters for what actually seems like no good reason. And you see one mainstay good character begging for his life while saying he fought with the humans ruthlessly put down while he cries out for his life. From there we see an asshole 20 year old dating a teenage girl that is a dick to the father whenever he gets the change. Then leaps of horrible logic in what should be done next and they survive situations thanks to script alone. Murderer Prime was also a bit too much this time around. Optimus Prime is the Superman of robots and heroes. I didnt like seeing him cry out, ILL KILL YOU!!!! or Join with us.... or die...... to the Dinobots. Thats pretty freaking far from noble. Then hits toward a bigger plot going on, but if you introduce that in a movie... you better answer that riddle. And.... I guess how women are portrayed in his movies has been critiqued enough to the point where now I really do see it and it bugs me. There was only tiiiiiny bits of racism that was but an itch this time around versus the slug to the jaw of the 2nd movie. All that added together to a very ugly and unpleasant experience versus the 1st movie that had all that fun as HELL build up to seeing Transformers, entering the world and Optimus not being *such* a psychopath. The third, with the band of good guy soldiers gave me several points of where I could see myself fighting alongside autobots. I dont identify with a poor father or an asshole 20 year old. So.... thats a lot of what went wrong. Otherwise I do enjoy Michael Bay crazy insane over the top action sequences. Althooouugh... I think maybe his sweeping camera in slow motion with the American flag in the background has now been done so much and so many times in this movie it started to make me roll my eyes. I dont feel like hes trying as much as doing stuff that feels increasingly artificial. But... yeah... thats like... just my opinion man.
