So this is where and how it all began for me 16 years ago in East Kilbride with my lifelong friend and first ever training partner Kenny. We were supposed to train together today but hes cancelled on me last minute (even though Im now a Pro he still has no respect lol) Me and Kenny used to walk 30mins to the local council gym everyday after school together no matter what the weather. After a couple of months of aimlessly bicep curling 10kg dumbells the old school bodybuilders in the gym took us under their wing. They taught us how to train, eat, gym etiquette and to be humble. It really was old school, hardcore training and I put a lot of my success in bodybuilding down to those brutal sessions in that sweat box. I will always be grateful for that experience and to those men for taking the time to show us how to do things right. When other kids where hanging out or studying, I could be found in the local gym everyday. I became totally hooked with all things bodybuilding. As a kid I leant a lot about swearing and banter in that gym as well lol. It was like one big happy gym family and they were special times. After only 6 months of training Kenny decided to enter us in to a bodybuilding comp! At this stage I knew nothing about posing, dieting or what the hell happened at these shows. Kennys real reason for entering us in the show is because he thought all the girls in our school would fancy us but we never told anyone that lol. When we told the old school gym rats wed entered they laughed but admired our enthusiasm so they offered to help. 3 months later I had won my first bodybuilding show and had my picture in the local newspaper. I thank Kenny for pushing me in to doing it and for sharing in the pain of attempting to shave our legs for the first time haha (Im surprised his mum didnt take us to the A&E when she saw us). If he hadnt pushed me then who knows how different my life would have been... I can also always rely on Kenny to keep me grounded haha. Whenever I stroll in to his house to visit with my designer clothes and aviator shades he just gives me a look and says...wtf are you wearing now ya big posing b#st#rd, look at the state if you lol. Thanks mate! Being back here in East Kilbride made me reflect and think of those golden days where it all started for me. Anyway enough of this sentimental stuff...its time to smash some weights! Thanks to my sponsor @EFN_UK for my black card which got me in to train in exerciseforless today. Its a great gym so if youre in the area go and check it out!
