So two years ago I suffered a neck injury on military training, and my life got completely flipped upside down because of it. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to participate in the Army Run half marathon (in Ottawa) as part of the Soldier On team, and my darling service dog co-pilot Coco was literally right behind me cheering me on the whole way. It was such an amazing thing to be able to go from running in the race a few years ago, to not being able to participate at all, to being able to ride in the race because I cant run anymore (or walk long distances). I placed 12th of 89 in the ambulatory half marathon group (and was the second woman and first dog to cross the finish line), which Im incredibly proud of considering that was my first competition since I was injured. The support from the crowd and the participants was amazing (and the constant cheers of LOOK AT THE DOOOOGGGGG completely cracked me up), and its something I wont ever forget.
