So, way back, a few days after the Facebook IPO, I took a ton of criticism on my stance on the matter: this was the best IPO in years and should be considered a huge success: Facebook now has the resources they needed to take the company to the next level. However, the common view point was that it was a total disaster for one reason: there was no pop. Usually, institutional investors like to see their investment pop up in value significantly right out of the gate. This attitude, and greed, always puzzles me. Why did you invest? Do you believe in the team or not? When a VC invests in a company do they expect the value of their investment to double overnight? No. They invest in a team, a company, and its ability to deliver on promised results. Facebook turned their mobile business around in less than a year after the IPO and have delivered results, and value, to those savvy investors who believed in them ever since. The following smack-down by Marc Andreessen must have felt soooooo good. Suck it, haters.
