So whats a Calvinist. Well today mostly no one . At least knowingly . Unknowingly ??? Pretty much all protestant denominations ( pardon my french I used the d word ) . Mostly when modern day Christians think of calvinism they think of predestination and tend to reject the idea . However its doctrins underly most of our modern theology . Its now become hodpog with about every other goffy idea thats come down the pike . I wont get into that right now but ya can bet a dollar seventy five I will some other time . Why the attitude ???? Well if instead of being forse fed twisted doctrins by the organizations we trust if we were presented with a ummmm a ummmm ? A balenced treatment of all the doctrins and there scriptural support and detractions then it sure would make some of the untruths less prevalent at the very least . The darkness does hate the light . And in cases were there are legitimate reasons for believing a thing then perhaps we would have respect for differing points of veiw instead of thinking them absured for the lack of ever being exsposed to them. You know form a point of view based on somthing other than kenneth copeland and the name it and claim it gang . A lot of our denominationlism came about through politics ( poly means many, and a tic is a blood sucking organism ). While the reformation was a good thing it was mostly political . And the daughters of Catholicism were no less the murders than there mother . There exsisted no other politically exseptable religon other than roman Catholicism before luther becuase the entire civilized world was under religous rule of the vatican . If one were to disagree or question the vatican in the slightest way they were targeted for financial ruin torture and death . Bless there saintly hearts . Actually at the time of luther the pope resided in france . Germany and france were at odds with each other and it was the german sentiment that the pope sided with france . That created a atmosphere were luther could challange the pope in theology and be protected from being martered . Luthers original beef with the pope was the sale of indulgences ( pay in advance to be forgiven of certain sins ) . I could go on but the point is that much of what when on was politics wereing a cloak of godlyness . So back to calvin . 1st point of five point calvinism . Total depravity . This fits in with the predestiny doctrin . It calimes that man is so depraved that its impossible for him to choose God . It denies that man is saved by faith in that hes so depraved he could not have faith . Therefore he must be choosen of God first and experiance regeneration before faith was possible . That there was nothing a man could do to be choosen it was totaly at the sovern will of God . Some He choose by His good pleasure to be saved and some he choose by his good pleasure to be damed . Bible says that He would that none would perish . That any that would call on the name of Jesus could be saved . Calvin considerd it a mystery why theses or the many scriptures that speak of Gods love and mercy would be in the bible . Let me back track . It all centers around calvins postion on God sovernty. To him it meant that everyhing that happens ( sound familar ?) Every thought , every action , every act of will by man or nature is preordained by God and that were just living out the prewrote script of God . Its in this that the once saved always saved controversy came about . When confronted with exsamples of individuals that have spent a major ( or minor) portion of there lives has believers , sometimes with many accomplishments to there credit and then fall away ( opra ?) , they would say that they were never saved to begin with . The bible has many exsamples and descriptions of people that fall away . The parable of the seed and the sower being very clear on the reasons many fall away . Now what I would say contrary to ether Calvinist or Armenian thinking would be not that any one lost there salvation , but failed to endure to the end . He that endures to the end shall be saved . Simple when ya just read the words for yourself ( I have had much help ) . Anyway so far what I see has lost in the doctrin is freewill something that I believe is essential for anything meaning anything . I could quote many scriptures to the affect that its through faith that salvation (regeneration ) is entered . While the main stream evangelical christian would like to uphold eternal security. And at the same time insist that we exercise free will , a little thinking would reveal that the two together are impossible . Never thought of it that way before . Its true . Ether we have no free will to deni christ . Or we do . Then it would turn into a question of is christ necessary . That the bible does not allow . If a man does not have the Son . He does not have the Father . Anyway the idea is if we have freewill then that free will includes deciding to be a satenist of we arent satisfyed with the way the christian thing is going ( judas ? ) I might be sounding negitive lets cheer it up .. JESUS said behold I stand at the door and knock . If ANY man should anser I will come in and sup with Him . All inclusive . To anyone that will . Getting side tracked its ok . Now when someone askes the creator to be a part of ones life often a experiance is had . Sometimes just a feeling . Sometimes a great and life changing event . Mostly somewhere inbetween . Often has time goes by . Often in hindsight the event has more significance than ever imagined to begin with regardless of the ummmmm magnitude of the original experiance . Some think the original experiance is the all of it . That there saved and all is accoplished . In reality it just a beginning . No not just a begining . Its a wonderful supernatural begining . He comes to live in us and begin the salvage prosess . To mold us into the image of christ . Its those that yeild to this prosess that can look foward to all the promises on the bible . There are also many promises made to those that dont yeild . So everyone does have something to look foward to . Something Jesus liked to say a lot . Let them who have ears hear . Hes looking for a people ha can call His own . A people that want Him . That love truth . That love one another . While calvin was right in that we are depraved . He was wroung in that a person cant come to the point were they see it and long for something better . To come to despise the sinfulness of us all . To choose to allow Him to have his will manifested in us . His sovernty is in that He has the right to rule . And the sovereignty to choose whom he will . Thats true . But not that he governs and preordains every thought and action of man. That would make God responcible for all the evil on earth . In that case it surly would be a mystery why the bible would speak of Gods love . However thats not the case . This is gonna take a bit . Enough for now . One last point . While we wre born into the law of sin and death through adam . Its not for adams sin that any of us will ever be damed . Its for our own . This is love . Not that we love God . But that He loved us while we were yet sinners . To some of us that certainly makes Him worthy to be loyal to . So it dosent bother me at all anymore when Im accused of being opposed to what God has revealed in the bible is apposed to . Im talking about other means of salvation( mostly self help crap with its many hats )other than the spirit of God . Not particular sins . One is like another . And none are superior to another. Its foolish to rally against somthing that we consider more offence than otheres . I can say this . The ten commandments are above other ideas of sin . And should be considered first . And all can be healed by Him . Look up The scripture we are healed by his stripes and see what its talking about . Just read the whole paragraph. Just looked real quick for the adress but only came up with the Isaiah scripture . It would be a good start to somebody starting to find out things for themselfes . Find it in the new testament and read it . Not talking about what those fakers on tv are useing it for . Any way got four more point of calvinism to go . I cant wait . Love yas
