“So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away.” John 11:17-18 (NKJV) Before we get to the context of our devotional passage, it is important that we grasp the big picture of what the sickness and ultimate death of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha was to accomplish. “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the son of God may be glorified through it.” John 11:4 (NKJV) Within and throughout all that you may face and have to endure as a believer, never forget that at the end of the day, your victory, your breakthrough, your blessing, the answer to your dilemma in life will bring glory to God the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord. God never heals us just to heal us. He never delivers us just too simply deliver us. He never makes a way just to make one when in our heart and mind there is no way. It is always for His glory. This means that He will be honored, praised, and applauded for what He is going to do on our behalf. The power of God’s glory should never be overlooked, nor taken for granted. When Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, “He stayed two more days in the place where He was.” John 11:6 (NKJV) Jesus’ delay of two days underscores what He had taught on a consistent basis throughout His ministry, namely, that His marching orders and agenda came exclusively from His Father. Neither the need of His closest friends nor the fury of His enemies determined His actions. He loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus; however He did not get in an immediate hurry when He was informed of Lazarus’ illness. The glory of God may necessitate a delayed answer, but you can be assured that it will never result in a denial of your request. The will of the Father will always be done. God’s glory is uniquely aligned with His will. Not only did Jesus delay two days when He discovered that Lazarus was sick, but when He eventually arrived at Bethany not only was he dead but Lazarus had been in his tomb for four days. While you may be tempted to think that this was the end of the story, think again. How long have you been waiting on the next move of God? Have you been waiting four hours; four days; four months; or four years and counting? It doesn’t matter how long because God cannot be confined by space or time. If He has made a promise to you according to His will then it is also according to His word because His will is His word. It has to come to pass, and as a result He must and He will receive the glory. If you want to see the glory of God revealed in the midst of your most pressing circumstances then you must believe. God has not forgotten you and He is just as interested in what is confronting you now as He was before the foundation of the world. In the midst of humanly incomprehensible situations you must believe. Do you want to see the dead places of your life resurrected? Do you want to be loosed and set free? If you are willing to believe, regardless of how long you have had to endure, you will see the glory of God.
