So yesterday we had one of the coolest things ever happen to - TopicsExpress

So yesterday we had one of the coolest things ever happen to us...BUT I got to start from the very beginning...Ill try to keep it short. As many of you know Luke has autism. Hes never really showed any interest in sports so we didnt push it. Hes our artsy kid so to speak. Nick has always been into sports. So last year nick wanted to start soccer. Not having enough coaches I started coaching...which I have no idea what Im doing but its a blast doing...last year we would all load up, Luke with a blanket & iPad, and go play soccer all day. So at the end of Nicks season last year Luke tells us he wants to play soccer. Thinking it would blow over & he would forget about it we didnt pay much mind to it but he was persistent. So we found us a favorite player to watch...got some gear...practiced in the backyard...& got signed up. Brendy & I were both worried but we dont tell Luke he cant do anything & we werent going to start now. So the teams split up & Luke was on one of his best buds Zains team. We talked with the coach & she was totally awesome about it & so was his team. Great bunch of kiddos! But this is were the anxiety kicked in. Wednesday was a rough practice but we wasnt going to quit. Saturday morning comes...I hardly slept...Nicks team played first then Luke. My little guys played their hearts out. And then I got called out for work...NO!!!!! I couldnt go to work now...NOT NOW! See Lukes team was a guy short & he had to play. He needed me! So I thought. I go to work & get a text from Lukes uncle Dustin...Luke just scored a goal! I jumped, screamed, fist pumped & cried. Before the game our coaches talked with the other team just letting them know. The other team was all girls but are like the womens national soccer team of Woodward...they are awesome. Theyre all good friends at school so they all knew Luke & wanted him to score a goal. So at the opening kick they passed it to Luke & he ran down and put it in the back of the net! SO AWESOME! People cheering, crying, high fives & hugs. What a great show of sportsmanship...kindness is alive & well here in WooTown. SO PROUD OF EVERYBODY INVOLVED! CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH! Even though I missed it, it will stick with me for the rest of my life. I dont think people understand what little things can do for people. Sorry so long...gotta go...Luke wants to go practice some soccer in the backyard
