Solar Bear Fans, At the majority of OSB home games, we take time to honor those who have dedicated their lives to fight for our country. These three heroes were honored during the last three home games: Wednesday, December 15 Officer Sauer, served in the US Army for five years as administrative assistant to General William Westmoreland in Vietnam and Washington. Officer Sauer spent 25 years in the Army, serving in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and numerous other places. He entered the Army in January, 1957 as a private and completed his career in late 1981 as a chief warrant officer grade 4, the highest warrant officer grade at that time. Saturday, December 27 Lawrence Penkala is a retired First Sergeant in the United States Army. First Sergeant Penkala served overseas at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Belgium, and with the Joint Chiefs of Staff through the Pentagon. He was the recipient of dozens of awards, with emphasis on courage, bravery, patriotism, and service to his country. First Sergeant Penkala is a born leader and is also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Sunday, December 28 Staff Sergeant James DiGiovanni served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970 in Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. Staff Sergeant DiGiovanni served as a Medical Procurement Supervisor acquiring medical supplies and instruments for Wilford Hall Medical Center and providing medical treatment for all branches of military and their families. Lets hear it for all of these three individuals, and all of the heroes who serve our country!
