Some 40 000 plus AMCU members marched on the Union Buildings - TopicsExpress

Some 40 000 plus AMCU members marched on the Union Buildings yesterday to tell Zumas government to stop trying to break their strike. And Im saying 40 000 plus because the SABC reported about 20 000 and I happen to know how the SABC reports on non-ANC aligned protest actions. Nonetheless, this march made no serious news. What is to be done now? If I was involved in this strike I would hand over the workers demands to the workers own community leaders, inform the local media and invite the international media. Mineworkers come from across all over the Southern African region. I would call a rally, not a march. I would slaughter herds of cattle bought with the workers subscriptions money. I would invite all community leaders who were behind the workers in the run-up to, during and in the aftermath of the Marikana massacre. I would invite chiefs and religious leaders from where the workers come. Buyelekaya Dalindyebo from the Eastern Cape and whoever else. I would invite the likes of Alan Boesak, Bantu Holomisa, Julius Malema, Terror Lekota. I would invite Alfonso Dlakama from Mozambique, Morgan Tsvangirai or Tendai Biti from Zimbabwe, the Swaliland Solidarity Network and Pudemo from Swaziland, Trade Union, Traditional, Religious and Community leaders from Lesotho and Botswana. This is where these workers come from after all. Isnt it? They would just come there, hear what the workers demands are and address them. Im telling you, if this were to happen, government, the South African media and the mine bosses would spring into action in the run-up to that rally and the dispute would be resolved within a week thereafter. But thats just me.
