Some people think that Christian metal bands like Demon Hunter, Living Sacrifice and Impending Doom attacks the world too much. I dont see it that way at all(but I understand). I think what it attacks is religious spirits, spirits that inspire people to be happy to be a self righteous judge, hold a grudge and live in sludge but withhold their love except for only those they deem worthy. Personally this is more direct than Id want to be because Im just not a confrontational sort of person but I mean, go watch any live performance from any of those bands. Youre gonna see a recurring thing, some very worldly looking people rocking the face out with big old smiles on their faces. Not worldly people running in fear of judgment or damnation. This song is a good example of why. To some this will be pretty offensive but this is the kind of reason why people in the world actually love these guys(if they like this kind of music). You know its like Living Sacrifices new album Ghost Thief(which I have only heard the two songs they released on youtube of)without even hearing the album I bet I can tell you what its about, at least in reference to the title. Id put my dollars up against your donuts that that title is a reference to people who block the gates of Heaven and neither enter, nor allow those to enter who are trying. Or take Demon Hunters last album True Defiance for example. In a world where hate is commonplace and reading the Bible and seeking intimacy with God on our own time is as much a rarity as unconditional love what does it REALLY mean to be a rebel? My votes on reading the Bible in intimacy with God and doing our best to practice unconditional love. We know that Jesus didnt come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfil them. How did He do that? What is it thats later referenced as being the fulfillment of the law? Its love. Its all about love, not just keeping rules. Keeping rules is a great way to keep our noses clean and keep others safe for sure but we have to keep faith to keep our souls clean and Paul said the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Crazily enough though, even love itself turns into a rule outside of relationship with Him. We have to remember that the Holy Bible is not ONLY made available to religious scholars like it was in Jesus day. ANYBODY from any faith or lack thereof has access to all of it and now thanks to the internet we dont even have to buy one anymore. Its all there. We have no way of knowing how much of Gods word a person might have read or not to know the truth for themselves(even though we know that the real truth of Gods Word is revealed through relationship with Him, not just study). Just using myself as an example(but NOT to congratulate myself), to look at me most would not think Ive read any book of the Bible, much less the entirety of the New Testament multiple times and am now working my way through the Old but thats the case. Its easy to fixate on this bands tone and words and think theyre doing the devils job; trying to shame us away from being with Jesus(and if thats what you perceive then just ignore that shame and cling tightly to Romans 8:38-39 and KNOW that thats a PROMISE from God to all of us.) I think thats way not so. Way not so. I think what they are doing is telling the truth in a way that would be comforting to those whove been rejected by some of its representatives. Which in a lot of cases is probably serving as more of an affirmation than even a sharing of information because I think that deep down, we ALL know that God is love and I think that in that place where we all know that, we also believe in and love Him whole heartedly. I think the mistake lies in waiting for somebody else to show us that instead of taking the opportunity to show it ourselves. Some people hear metal music and associate it with the devil and hatred and violence and the occult and stuff but not the people who actually listen to and love it. To some, metal music is like the sound of dirt and rock being shoveled over a coffin or something and yeah, the devils been trying to lay claim on it and the people touched by it for years and years and hes sent a whole legion of religious spirits to help him in that cause too and many have been convinced now that because they love what these people do(who play and sing this sort of music)are evil they believe now that they too must just be evil. Then guess how they act? Evil. So yeah sure, this music isnt for everybody to some its offensive to the ears. Its not for everybody its for people whove had their asses handed to them and might be searching for proof that they actually lived to tell the tale. For those of us who actually love metal, even if we are into Satan and black magic and all of that crap(which frankly MOST of us are not even remotely into at all, I mean, personally Im Christian, I aint no satanist or occultist)its very literally music to our ears. This song specifically To those of us whove been shoved aside, rejected, made to feel inadequate or been taken advantage of and taken for granted to ridiculously damaging levels with only minimal retaliation this doesnt sound to us like dirt and rock being shoveled over a coffin at all. Not nails on a chalkboard or any other annoying, dark or evil thing. If anything it sounds like dirt and rock being shoveled OFF of a coffin to us, but again, its not for everybody and Im not trying to make a false idol out of it or anything like that. Im just saying that if the blood of Christ isnt even enough to cover a persons taste in music then were all in deep, deep trouble because I have yet to read about a persons taste in music being sinful in the Bible. Fortunately, Jesus gave His life for all of our sins, and He doesnt even CARE what we listen to. He cares how we treat each other and how much time we spend with Him(which He would prefer to be every minute of our lives).
