Some say, a benefit to hiring a doula is there is a less of an emotional attachment to the laboring mother allowing for a clearer judgment in support of decision making. Now, I believe that’s partially true but for me, as a doula, I get attached to all my mommies and find it physically impossible not to. Sure we are not family nor have we known each other for a substantial amount of time but to be so closely connected with someone in an incredibly intimate, emotional and spiritually life changing event its hard to avoid developing an honest and sincere attachment to such inspirational and wonderful person. I am in the presence of a miracle every time I support a laboring mother and witness their birth. I am honored every single time I am invited into a celebration of life and it never ceases to amaze me. I had the honor of supporting a determined mother yesterday who taught me to never, ever under estimate
