Some years ago the lord manifested His face to me in a Visitation. The mere beholding of His face was a message in itself. Through the face on one side I saw compassion, love, mercy that looks infinite beyond my imagination and wondered why He will Love and be compassionate that much. On the other side I saw His severity, uncompromising, His hatred of Sin so clearly manifested by the mere look of his face in a seriousness and sternness I cannot comprehend. After that vision as I continue reading the scriptures I began to see this two sided nature of His being clearly manifested all through the scripture in a clearer and amazing way; sometimes He looks to be nothing but mercy ,another time he look to be nothing but Holy and uncompromising. These natures are part of him and inseparable. When the Lord appeared to us in a vision, every appearing of His bodily image will be a message. That is why the scripture calls him “…the express image of God personality (Heb1v3)”.One of the striking fact to note in the Lord message to the seven Churches in Asia in the book of revelation, is each church message was centre on a part of the image in which He appears to John. Revelation1v11-20 reveals all that John saw. He saw in the midst of seven golden candle sticks, one like the son of man whose head and hairs were white like wool, with feet like brass burn in a furnace, out of whose mouth was a sharp two edge sword etc. Each image revealed a revelation the addressed Church needed to have to overcome. The Church of Ephesus problem was that they were not heeding the message of their Star (messenger) like they used to. John was told to address to them as “Unto the Church of Ephesus these things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand , who walked in the midst of the candlestick” What John saw in the vision was more than the seven stars and candlesticks. He did not even said “The Lord said this” but the Lord was represented according to the part of the image that revealed the need of the Ephesians Church. The danger of neglecting the message of their Star (Angel ) was the revelation that the Ephesians Church needed to know at the moment. So he finally warn them “ ..Repent or else I will come and remove my Candlestick (Rev2v5).Their problem was their attitude to the message of their “Star”. To the Church of Syrma they were addressed as “these things saith the first and last which was dead and is Alive (Rev.2v8) .He revealed Himself to the Church of Syrma as Him that was dead and is alive, because in Rev 2v10 He revealed that many of them will be cast into prison to be tried even to death; and so needed a fresh revelation of how He was raise again from dead , that they might lay their lives in Hope and Faith in his resurrection power. To the Church in Pergamus He revealed himself as him that has the sharp sword with two edges (Rev2v12) because they did not used the “sword” of His word against those that teach the doctrine of Balaam to entice God children into Idolatry and fornication (Rev.2v14). They needed the revelation of the sharp sword with two edges. To the Church in Thyatira He revealed himself as him whose eyes are a flame of fire and as His feet as brass (Rev.2v18) because in their heart they suffered the false prophetess Jezebel to seduce His servants to fornication. He was saying something like “you need a revelation to know my eye sees the hidden things and my Fire will not tolerate mixture”. To the Church in Sardis He revealed himself as him that hath the seven spirits of God and the seven starts because partly they were growing weak and many things were dying and needed to repent and cling to the work of the Spirit (Rev3v1-6). To the Church in Philadelphia He revealed himself as He that hath the key of David, and He that opens and no man shut because they needed the revelation of His sovereignty. They were a faithful Church but there was not much outward strength manifested in the external. They needed the revelation of his sovereignty to know that as long as they kept their obedience their seemingly defeat in the natural will end in glory and Victory (Rev3v7-13). To the Church in Laodicea He revealed himself as the Faithful and true witness because they had an indifferent heart to the things of Christ. They seem to think He did not mean much of what He said and so he had to reveal himself as the True and the Faithful witness (Rev3v14-22). One thing to note is to every Church He addressed “I Know thy work” and to all who failed he said “Repent”. One Life Cycle is not enough for a man or woman to know all that is in Christ but the Lord will relate with us according to our need. If we are willing He will challenge, and adjust us unto good works. Sometimes our need is just a fresh revelation of many of those things that we have learn and heard about Christ. The seven Churches messages may not be new even to John yet in His heart and Spirit they will be new and fresh. For example He may have long knew Christ as “the true and faithful witness “but after the Vision it means something deeper. We are not saying we need vision of that form but spiritual understanding and not necessarily Visions. We need a fresh revelation from Christ about many of those things that we have heard and learn about. That make Christ to become so real to us, and hence the desire to ever abide in him and live for His pleasure.
