Somehow, I have a bad feeling that our farmers in Butuan City, through the office of the Vice Mayor, if Im not mistaken, has engaged and caught up with the same type of transaction. Ironically, our local government has given away super high cost fertilizer products from no less than the great AMWAY instead of being provided with a much sustainable real organic sources of farm inputs. During my stint with community development work where all our beneficiaries are farmers, I remember, that we have trained and provided the farmers a community-based technology capacitating them to formulate their own fertilizers and other farm inputs coming from fish bones, simple sugars, rotten vegetables and the likes. Now, if the governments intervention is really geared towards sustainable agriculture or organic farming, how is it feasible then for these farmers to sustain by using products such as AMWAY that are being sold and marketed through networking? Anyone? Convince me!
