Sooooo the best laid plans and all that. We left our refuge in Cataluña this morning with much regret and began to head north. Now then, with 270 miles of motorway in front of you, you grab every diversion you can. We had tentatively planned to go to Perpignan (Dragons) and Béziers (Occitan) but got distracted by a sign for the Salvador Dali museum. Yeah, right. Pulled off the motorway and even the sightest hint of where to go after that ceased to exist. We ended up in Cadaqués (we should, of course, have gone to Figueres), but we did find a Dali museum of sorts. None of his works, but a pictorial celebration of his antics in that town. Quirky, unexpected but intriguing. Dali. From there we made our way up the coastal road (stunning) to Perpignan and onwards without stopping as the scenery changed from Cataluña to Southern France to the Massif Central coming to rest in Aumont Aubrac. Yet again the regional food is superb. My first taste of Bleu dAuvergne (thank you Julie Murray) and an incredible Chocolat Crème Brûlée. And so, to sleep.
