Sorry for the sideways bullshit, but from mentioning having a skate park to actual completion was almost 5 years. May 18th (which happens to be another significant date in my life now) of 97 the editorial was published (I know....who knew one of us would be smart enough to write, much less negotiate the public parcel system). 2001 they finally approved it. That was me cutting the ribbon at the ground breaking (hard to see, but Im the awkwardly tall kid holding huge scissors). Then they ran a story saying they were going to build a second park, which as it turned out, enough influential neighbors complained about drug use (which I think they just stereotyped in when they started seeing graffiti, although I dont doubt there was at least a little going on) that they actually just wanted to tear it down and build a pay park at the sul Ross senior center tennis courts. All in all, I was happy we were able to eventually get something done so that the next generation didnt have to get harassed by the assistant manager at Albertsons who just got finished popping his zits and figured he had nothing better to do but run off a bunch of kids not hurting anyone. The one pic I couldnt find was of all of us (Chris Morris, Mtthew Snwe, Ben, and a couple others I cant remember) holding our boards looking very menacing into the camera as to say give us a skate park or we will eat your daughters). Surprisingly they published it in the paper and we all got a chuckle out of it. Matt of course had the legs of his pants rolled up about shin high and a wife beater on with the almost devil-hornish bangs look with the rest of his head shaved. Such a punk :)
