Southern United Atheist fundraiser for Childrens Hospital raised more money in their second day with more discrimination than compared to their first day fundraising as the Southern United Methodists for Childrens Hospital. On the first day people donated the usual change and they received many donators and no apparent verbal or physical judgement. On the second day (donating as Atheists) people walked by with dirty looks, saying passive aggressive comments under their breath, Atheists..wow, really?, people speaking negatively to others around and gawking and pointing, or walking straight up to these women and saying What is this crap? How do we know they money really goes to the children? --in which to the last question stated I would have responded, How do you really know the religious groups you donate to send all of their money from their fundraising to their charities? But thats neither here nor there.-- The majority of these people assume these women (as Atheists) are wrong, immoral, deceitful, evil, etc. And are mislead. And then others - while fewer, but more expressively grateful - walked up and instead of donating a few cents or a dollar...donated 20 dollars to 50 dollars at a time and thanked these women for what they were doing, for showing that atheists arent these evil, mean, deceitful people but that they are kind, loving, caring, and have true morals and great intentions. The only difference is they dont have a god. I thank them for showing just how discriminate America really can be towards those who choose to NOT have a religion, those who arent following one group or another, those who are different, those who walk a different path. I thank them for standing up for themselves and their choice of lack of belief and their choice to study fact and think for themselves. I thank them for standing up to religious intolerance among many other intolerances and those who openly judge them and others without expecting any retaliation. I thank them for showing that they, we, ARE good people. #endthestigma
