Speaker Profiles: Colloquium Day 1 Jahnvi Andharia is an alumus of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai. Her career spans over two decades of community based work with marginalized communities of Gujarat – the tribal population of eastern region, landless and marginal farmers of Saurashtra and the fishing and salt pan workers that belong to the Denotified tribes. For a few years she worked with Sir Dorabji Tata Trust where she expanded the portfolio of Civil Society, Human rights and Governance. Her key strengths are developing strategies for community organizing with a feminist perspective and empowerment approach. She is the founder member of ANANDI an organisation that continues to work among the most marginalized communities and has been instrumental in bringing food security into the development debate in Gujarat - both among civil society actors as well as the policy level. The touch stone for the choices that the organisation makes is whether it will address women living in extreme poverty. Hence in the various natural resource management projects, innovations whereby landless women become the starting point of all activities and where marginal farmers produce certified food grade maize seeds, have been possible.
