Speaking exclusively to #CCTV News, the head of the #UN Framework Convention on #ClimateChange, Christiana Figueres, has said that she is hopeful that nations across the world will come together to ink a binding global climate deal in 2015. youtu.be/jPSvOnAWJSE Figueres said that the upcoming Lima summit will set the tone for next year’s United Nations Climate Conference Paris. At that conference, it is hoped that a binding protocol can be agreed upon. A possible global deal in Paris is something that Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Barack Obama alluded to while announcing a #China-US climate agreement last week in Beijing. As per that agreement, the world’s two biggest economies announced ambitious goals and pledged joint efforts to tackle climate change in the next 15 years. The #US said that it intends to achieve an economy-wide target of reducing its emissions by 26% to 28% below its 2005 level in 2025. China, meanwhile, intends to achieve the peaking of carbon dioxide emissions around 2030 and increase the share of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption to around 20% by 2030.
