Spiritual Myths in Business Unplugged #3 ~~ The “Because you can’t afford the fee, you can pay me later, or I’ll discount the fee, or you can pay me what you feel” Financial Model ~~ You go into a conversation with a prospective client, everything feels great, and then they say that whilst they would love to buy your service, they really don’t have the money to pay you. You feel for the client. You would love to work with them and so you find a way forward by offering a discount, or a late payment or the suggestion that they pay you what they can. Some would see this as a noble response. This is the response of many life coaches, course facilitators and healers. Unless you are someone who is living proof of knowing your own value, there is nothing noble about this response. You have just successfully validated their belief that they are powerless because you have so perfectly modeled this powerlessness by your response. If your service is about supporting your clients to get out of their ego and into their best selves, you have just reneged on your contract. If you talk about helping your clients to make better choices, then it’s your primary job as the coach/healer/facilitator to know what choices YOU are making. It’s your primary job to rigorously clean up your thinking and behaviour so that you are indeed modelling the results that you say your clients will get by working with you. If you are supporting your clients to have successful businesses and a successful business includes a healthy income and yet you are living hand to mouth yourself, you do not have the authority to be coaching/facilitating/healing in this area. Unfortunately there are a lot of practices in this industry that are incongruent with the messages that are communicated. Come on guys. If this is you, it’s time to up-level your thinking and bring integrity to our industry by doing and having experience with what it is that you say your clients will get by working with you.
