Spring and summer construction update in Acadia National Park 2013 Bar Harbor ME – In order to keep communities informed about various construction projects in Acadia, the park will be issuing occasional updates on the status of the projects. This is a general overview of the projects with approximate start and finish dates. As they progress, more definite dates will be provided. Due to inclement weather earlier attempts to work on surfacing the carriage roads were delayed. Work on the second third of the carriage road resurfacing project will begin on July 15 in the Day Mountain area and continue through the remainder of the month. The sections being worked on will be temporarily closed, but there will be employees posted at carriage road intersections to direct visitors. Carriage roads to be affected are the Day Mt. Loop, Amphitheater Loop and the Jordan Pond west side road, as well as the links between them. Carriages of Acadia will still be operating during this time. Beginning June 24th, a preservation paving mix will be applied on the Schoodic Loop and Schoodic Point roads in order to seal them and prevent damage. There will always be one lane open, so no closures are expected. The Park Loop Road, including the two-way section, will also be treated immediately after the completion of Schoodic. Repair of the six little bridges that take the Stanley Brook Entrance Road over Stanley Brook will begin on July 15. The road will be fully closed to traffic during construction, which is expected to be complete by the end of August. Detour signs will be posted throughout the park and neighboring communities.
