Srinagar: Irfan Ahmad Ganaie, 18, topped a school debate a daybefore he was killed by the troops of 13 RR of the Army. Irfan’s cousin Mehrajuddin Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that on Saturday, Irfan had participated in a farewell party of his Principalat Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Naidkhai and secured first position in the debate. After passing his 8th standard examination from Government Middle School Markundal, Irfan secured admission in GHSS Naidkhai for further studies. “He was very intelligent and these days was preparing for his exams,” Mehrajuddin said. He said driving and working on software was Irfan’s passionin addition to playing volleyball with the youth in the locality. “He had no vehicle of his own but was fond of driving as he would always run after his cousins asking them for letting him drive their vehicles,” Mehrajuddin said. “Irfan wanted to become a pilot or an aeronautical engineer,” he said. Irfan is survived by his parents, three sisters and a brother. Only one of the five siblings, Toota, the eldest sister of Irfan, is married. Irfan’s elder brother Fayaz Ahmad is pursuing a B.Ed course, sister Shaista is studying in 10th standard while the youngest sister Khushboo is studying in 7th standard. Irfan’s father Ghulam Nabi Ganaie works for the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. Irfan’s friend Sameer Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that he was constantly in touch with Irfan. “He was a very good volleyball player and a tech-savvy guy who would love discussions on software,” Sameer said. He said on Saturday Irfan was inquiring about new software for his laptop, which he had formatted few days ago. “He was a tech-savvy guy always on a look out for new gadgets,” Sameer said. He said Irfan was curious about upcoming technologies. “You would always find him searching and gathering in-depth information about new things,” Sameer said. Irfan’s uncle Muntazir Sultan said Irfan was helpful and religious. He would study till late in the evening and aimed at securing high percentage in 12th standard exams. Locals said Irfan was a gentleand good-looking boy. “It is a big loss for the entire village. Irfan was exceptionalguy who one could always find busy with his work or in his own interests,” said Abdul Jabbar, a residentof Markundal village. “He was an innocent teenager but would talk like a mature guy. He was very generous and obedient as well.
