St Bart’s House Planning w/c 12.1.15 Babies The Babies will be learning all about the farm and exploring baskets full of farm animal’s puppets and a soft play farm. The cosy corner will become a hay barn with farm animals and the babies will sing songs in the tent with their carers such as ‘Old McDonald’ and ‘Baa, Baa Black Sheep’. Cardboard boxes will be used to make a small world farm where the children can search through the gloop and shredded paper for the animals. Toddlers The Toddlers have a few new faces joining their room in the New Year and so will be concentrating on learning all about ‘ME’! Tea sets will be set up for the children to socialise around and cleaning products and dustpan and brushes and cloths so the children can clean the room after their tea party in order to promote conversation. A basket of clothes will be added to promote independence with dressing and undressing. Photographs will be used to create a family tree and each individual child will be involved in measuring their height, weight and the size of their hands and feet, they will then make salt dough and imprint their hands to hang on the family tree. The children will be using mirrors to look at themselves and will create their own portraits. In the outdoor area the children will be measuring how far they can run and jump and balance before beginning to learn how to play ‘follow my leader’. Lower Pre-School The Lower Pre-School will be using the ‘Gruffalo’s Child’ book to learn about different types of prints in the garden and making print pictures from a variety of media. They will be going out on a trail hunting expedition looking for animal marks in the garden and the local parks. During group discussion times the children will be looking at the sequence of the animals arriving in the story, counting how many times they appear in the book and finding out why animals need to use camouflage. Pre-School Pre-School will begin to be read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Authentic music from the films will be played whilst the children relax and listen to a chapter a day and then re-cap on the previous day. Each day activities will be related to the story with tables set up for planting seedlings and learning about ‘Herbology’! In addition the children will make wizard hats and wands to use during their science experiments and cooking activities. A bottle of chocolate frogs and jelly beans will be used to praise and encourage good behaviour and a wizardry cookbook to concoct mastery recipes such as delicious crunchy cockroaches and the infamous butter beer from Diagon Alley! The children will be holding a dress up day and will be creating their own invitations using feather quills to mark make. A train journey on the Hogwarts Express! (local train) will be arranged and children will visit a castle to imagine what it would be like to live in and learn wizardry.
