Stand your ground Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word. Ephesians 6:17 We attended a bullfight in Riobamba where we live. The matadors from Spain were well-known. The pageantry, the traditional dress of the matadors, and the crowd shouting, “Ole!” fascinated me. Twice matadors were attacked by bulls. The first bullfighter turned and ran. The bull caught and injured him. The second matador didn’t run when the bull attacked. He grabbed the bull’s horns and held on. As long as he held his grip, the bull couldn’t gore him. After other bullfighters distracted the bull, the matador released the horns and went on to win the victory. Believers are involved in a spiritual battle. Our enemy traps us with lies. Satan wants us to question the truth of God’s Word. Similar to the first bullfighter, we become defenseless if we let go of our offensive weapon—our sword of the Spirit, the Bible. Instead, let’s “take the bull by the horns” and confront our adversary with the truth in God’s Word. Stand your ground and disable the enemy’s attack. Father, I can’t win spiritual battles in my own strength. Help me to rely on You and the truths in Your Word.
