Statism is a form of religion. It is in fact the most dangerous form of religion. Whether it is theocratic or secular is out of the question. The State itself instills a kind of worship through citizenship, patriotism, nationalism, and the pledging of allegiance to its flag. This is stronger than any divine prayer in that it perpetuates its self-justification for existence, to take any necessary means of action to self-perpetuate beyond question or reason. It distorts freedom and liberty to mean the sole existence and liberty of the State. It misleads those under it that it is the sole grantor of liberty and rights, that no individual or group of people can have freedoms or exist and govern themselves without the ever-present hegemony of the State. It presents itself whether subtly or grand in whatever manner, how it purportedly functions and represent itself as a god that civilization and humanity can never do or be without. It is the most terrifying of all religions and billions of people are buying into it. [Alexia]
