Status Update By Pat Dahl Miller Sunday, November 24, 2013: I apologize for not sending updates for Saturday & Sunday. I am exhausted and was very depressed. Saturday & Sunday showed no changes. It took me two hours to get home Friday due to thunderstorms closing roads. However, they started to decrease his meds on Sunday. When I arrived on Monday I held the two fingers of his left hand that do not hurt too bad - told him I loved him, and missed him, and needed him to come back to me. He turned his head toward me, opened his eyes, and lightly squeezed my hand twice. I wanted to scream the good news, but, couldn’t for the tears. He bounced his right leg when there was a problem - like when he was cold. He lifted his head about six inches from his pillow. Praise be! Twice he was able to do a single nod. The nurse was excited, too - not as much as I, but excited nonetheless. Tomorrow (they think) the surgery to implant the rod in is leg will be performed. After the surgery they want to remove the ventilator from his throat. Let the prayers, candles, and good thoughts start for Al to be able to talk. Actually; I never thought I would say: ‘speak Al, speak all you want’! Also, he is focusing better, well, better to say focusing at all. He was even trying to watch television. One more thing: he is able to frown - who’d have thunk it. Enough for now. Many thanks for all the ‘good vibes’ - or whatever you want to call them. It is working! Pat P.S. My neighbors, Carol and Bob, with the assistance of another neighbor, Jeff, are building a ramp to the front door for Al. I cannot thank them enough. As I cannot thank all of you enough.
