Stingrays Seniors Flying Out the Gate Stingrays senior swimmers came flying out of the gate in the first night of competition at the 2013 Mike Lockwood Memorial Swim Meet. Led off by Little John Bodden, swimming in his first 800 ever, Stingray made a sweep of both the 800 and 1500 events. John swam a well-paced race, swimming a 200 freestyle PB to his feet in the first 200m of the race. Bodden finished 7th overall in a time of 10:44. Catriona Macrae and Katie Klein also swam excellent races, coming in 4th and 6th respectively. Klein dropped 17 seconds in the process. Lauren Williams clocked the largest drop of the night, chopping off 20 seconds, even with goggles falling off. Andrew Smilley swam a superb 800, dropping 10 seconds, holding pace the entire way and putting distance between himself and the field with every stroke. Smilley won the event overall in a time of 9:34. In the 1500, Stingrays three boys came into the final wall 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Cole Morgan and Brandon Williams swam great races, although with one slight misstep (a false start by Mr Morgan)... BUT, even though he knew he had false started, Morgan gave his all through the entire 1500 meter race. This is an excellent example of sportsmanship by our team captain! Most impressive though was young Jonathan Key, who swam steady from start to finish, posting personal bests at the 400 mark and 800 mark on his way to a 1st place finish in the event. Way to go swimmers! Day 2 coming right up. GET AFTER IT STINGRAY!!!
