It doesn’t matter when it was exported from Iran, it could have been sitting in a Swiss chalet for a hundred years – it’s still from Iran. به گفته ی کارشناسان کنترل صادرات، حتی سال ها و فرسنگ ها دور بودن از ایران نیز تفاوتی ایجاد نمی کند. در چشم مقامات آمریکایی، منشا ایرانی صنایع دستی، آنها را در زمره کالاهای ایرانی به شمار آورده و شامل تحریم ها می کند. این سیاست به این معناست که حمل و نقل آثار فرهنگی به داخل و خارج از آمریکا مستلزم مجوزی ویژه است که کسب آن گاهی ماه ها طول می کشد. توماس دانزیگر، وکیل متخصص در زمینه آثار هنری اعتقاد دارد این یکی از نقاط ضعف قانونی بسیار محسوس است. به کفته ی دانزیگر، فرقی نمی کند زمانی که اثری از ایران صادر شده باشد، حتی اگر برای صدها سال در یک آلونک چوبی در سوئیس خاک خورده باشد، باز هم یک اثر ایرانی محسوب می شود
