Strict criteria for football exec posts Fiji Football has made proposals for changes to its statutes, among these, implement a stricter qualification criteria for candidates to Football Houses presidential post and executives posts at district level. Among motions submitted in the Board of Councils meeting on September 13, is a proposal to amend section 40.3 - which provides for any vacancy in office of the president. The proposed amendment requires persons contesting Fiji Footballs presidential post to have served Football House as its Vice President for at least three years in the last five years prior to the date of congress at which the election will take place. A candidate must also have a clean record and has not been found guilty of breaching the Federation International Football Association (FIFA), Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and Fiji FA code of ethics. Candidates who qualify will be informed by the general secretariat at least 12 days before the date of congress. An additional subsection has been proposed to Section 40 to cater for the office of the Vice President - which requires candidates to have served at district associations either as a president of vice president or as an executive committee member for at least three years of the five years prior to being nominated. Proposals have also been made to add a new article No.13.7 to address the qualification of candidates for the position of presidents, secretary and treasurer at district level. It requires that candidates must have served the district as a VP or as an executive committee member for at least three out of the last four years. Persons nominated shall give a written undertaking to serve at least three out out of the four years of their elected term. The Fiji FA believes that the article will ensure stability in administration at district level and prevent a repetition of past experiences where officials appointed as president, secretary, treasurer had no previous experience resign when they are under pressure leaving the association in a financial mess because they had no previous experience. These proposals will be submitted for discussion at Football Houses Ordinary Congress to be held on October 8. This is likely to take place in Suva. Source : Fijilive
