Strict new South African immigration laws have sparked confusion - TopicsExpress

Strict new South African immigration laws have sparked confusion and panic among foreign residents. According to the new law, foreigners, who want to continue living in South Africa, will have to return home to apply for extensions. The newly gazetted immigration rules have been called unconstitutional with considerable legal upheaval expected. While government believes it has drawn a clear distinction between short-stay and long-stay permanent residency visas, affected individuals believe the changes have been implemented too hastily. They argue that a clear outline of the costs for each visa has not been made available and the involvement of the Department of Labour and the Department of Trade and Industry in certain application processes means it has become extremely cumbersome and riddled with delay opportunities - already an issue for the industry. TVC News Jody Jacobs reports how the new regulations have already ripped apart families and loved ones… So we ask our question of the day: How would South Africas new immigration law affect those who have been there most of their life and know no other home outside the country?
