Strive to surprise yourself. First, I want to say THANK YOU to our entire 45 North community for all of the support during the past 5 to 6 months during the entire CrossFit “season”. These few months are always full of ups and downs with the culmination of it being the NW Regional. I can tell you that as your coach, to look up and see the huge crowd of 45 Northers present to cheer one of your own or check my messages and Facebook to read about all the online viewers was simply amazing and unforgettable. I know Cat and I are blessed to have the support structure that you all provide for us each and every day. You all are one of the reasons we can do what we do in order to make you, 45 North, proud of your box and the people in it. I think I speak for both of us when I say, we love you and we love our box! Each of you did amazing this season and pushed yourselves in ways you never thought possible. Thank you everyone for supporting each other and making our box even tighter than it was before. I look forward for new ways of giving each of you opportunities to excel in your own ways. I have always known this but this is the lesson I want to reiterate with each of you as we move into the summer and look forward to next season and even through our daily lives: STRIVE TO SURPRISE YOURSELF. It is always hard to find ways to constantly believe in oneself. We all have doubt, we all have goals we are trying to attain and get frustrated when they aren’t happening as quickly as we think they should. It is such a challenge for each of us because we tend to give up internally and that then makes our outward performance suffer. Each day is a battle mentally – we have to challenge ourselves to wake up to go to work, challenge ourselves to eat right, challenge ourselves to not be a dick to a coworker who is simply stupid, challenge ourselves to go to the gym, challenge ourselves to not stop with 1 minute remaining. All this “challenging” can wear on us and to stay positive almost feels like a chore when things aren’t going right. So when faced with these seemingly insurmountable tasks – strive to surprise yourself. This doesn’t mean don’t set goals or expectations, It means don’t focus on what you think the outcome is going to be based on your current “perception” of your abilities and let it affect how you view the task. It means, if you are defeated entering the challenge, you will remain defeated throughout it. I feel so privileged to be a part of this community because I learn so much from each of you and am so thankful that I can be a part of each of your lives. You all have made an impact in my life and I strive to do the same for each of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
