Stuff that Theists should probably stop saying to Atheists ; #1: Where do you get your morality? Morality is actually an evolutionary mechanic, there was morality before religion was an appropriated concept. If you read Kropotkins mutual aid in evolution, He provides clear cut examples of morality in the animal world, even though the article is ultimately more to do with economics. #2 Your life must have no purpose without God. Nope. In my case at least, I am still well on my way to achieving the goals Ive set, Im comfortable with who I am without a deity. #3 Why are you mad at God? Im not. I dont believe in it. Its impossible for me to be angry with something I dont believe exists. #4 You cant disprove God. Youre right, but the burden of proof doesnt rest with me. If you were to tell me you were abducted by aliens I would be obviously skeptical, It would be up to you to prove to me you in fact were abducted Not up to me to prove you werent. #5 What if youre wrong? What if I am? If were working under the assumption that any old theory is equally plausible, then what if were all wrong? #6 You just have to have faith. Why? Not having it seems to be working just fine. #7 Just open your heart to god. Im not explicitly shielding my heart from God in the first place. Myself and a lot of other atheists have been religious in the past and have genuinely tried to open our hearts to God. My atheism is actually a product of my old religious beliefs. #8 You were never religious to begin with. How do you know? Who sets the standard for who is a true christian or a true hindu? #9 What happened in your childhood? Nope. Just nope. #10 Have you ever read the bible/Quran/Torah? I dont care for sweeping generalizations, but I will point out that its not actually the job of Atheists to read your holy book although a number of atheists have most likely read at least some of if not all of these books out of research. In many cases these books are actually the proponents of atheism. #11 Ill pray for you. Thanks. #12 Do you worship the devil? No. Because X passage in a holy book states that anybody who does not follow X religion does not make it so. We generally dont believe in the devil for the same reason we dont believe in God. #13 You must be agnostic We could be. There are plenty of agnostic atheists, but its up to the individual to decide. #14 Isnt Atheism a religion? If you consider being bald a hair color. #15 Why are you so angry? Not all atheists are in fact angry people, but its also not like while being painted as devil worshipping infant-eating woemongers we would have a legitimate reason to be upset.
