Subcultures Magazine review on Slynks - Nod Ya Head EP For those unfamiliar, Slynk has been bringing the funk to Glitch Hop in Australia since the genre’s emergence. Drawing flavours from that Canadian “Ghetto Funk” sound, Slynk sets himself apart from other Australian producers. This has resulted in a huge spotlight on the international stage; ultimately, due credit. “Nod Ya Head” EP is his latest testament to that. The title track gets the ball rolling with sleazy guitar riffs and a jump up type vibe. As someone who used to be a dancer, this is one of those tunes that awakens the bboy within. Next up is a combined effort with Fartfetchd, a party favourite of the east coast of Australia who’s also started to jump up on the world stage. The tight percussion and crunching bassline bring about a kind of elegant rawness. Rounding things off is “The Send Off”, this time rockin a more 80s kind of vibe but with that smooth signature Slynk funk. These three tracks that draw from differences offer a short and sweet EP that brings enough different flavours to satisfy anyone who froths over mid-tempo tunes.
