Subject: Re: Now - Mega News everywhere It has become an epidemic in Puerto Rico with the expectation that ALL Island residents will suffer from it sooner or later. It is a virus which attacks mainly your joints ,especially those afflicted by arthritis or previous trauma such as surgery, dislocations, fractures, etc.. The virus is spread by the same mosquito that spreads malaria, dengue, and yellow fever. There is a day of high fever associated with the malady and maybe a rash or skin eruption, but these are minor problems. the main problem is the excruciating continuous pain in those affected joints where the virus has chosen to rest and inflame. The most sensitive joints so affected are; shoulder, neck, knees, ankles, and wrists. When your knees are affected you have great difficulty sitting and latter standing from the sitting position, as well as going up and down stairs, or squatting. The other joints have similar difficulties in accordance with their use. There is no cure and regular painkillers have little if any effect, I know first hand since Im one of the local victims. Ive taken 50mg Tramadol with 1000mg Tylenol and the pain continues with very little effect, There is no cure and no medication, the joint pain may become chronic and stay on for several months or years until the body gets rid of the virus, nobody knows for sure. How do you know if you have it? Well in my case, a month ago I played a game of Golf in the morning feeling fine, went home showered and sat down to watch TV. When I tried to get up from my easy chair I couldnt. Both my knees ,especially my right ,where Ive had surgery several years ago ,were under intense pain as were my wrists, especially the right wrist fractured many years ago. My legs could not lift me And due to wrist pain I could not use my arms to push up. This happened a month and a half ago. The intensity of the main is now less but still strong enough to hamper my movements especially stairs which I have to handle one step at a time favoring my right knee, which by the way if flexed for a while becomes very painful. The rash went away after a couple of days as well as the fever. The swelling of my hands has subsided. Every day I wake hoping the pain has gone away. Hopefully it will one day. I sincerely hope that those of you who are free of the Chincungunya dont get it, its no fun. Those of you that have it know full well what Im talking about and I hope you get over it soon.
