Sunday Mail Editor appears in court: Sunday Mail Editor, Edmund Kudzayi, who is facing charges of contravening sections of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, has been remanded in custody to the 23rd of June for bail application. Kudzayi is facing three counts which are; undermining the authority of President Robert Mugabe and subverting or attempting to subvert a constitutionally-elected government. Kudzayi also face charges of publishing or communicating false statements as well as keeping ammunition in an insecure place. Meanwhile, ZRP Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba has criticised some sections of the local media for publications alleging that there are certain ministers and parliamentarians who are targeted in the Kudzayi case. “The police wishes to inform the public that there are no ministers targeted in the investigations. In fact, the ministers were targeted by Baba Jukwa and the most targeted minister was Cde Saviour Kasukuwere,” she said. Senior Assistant Commissioner Charamba stressed that the police will not be deterred from conducting thorough and comprehensive investigations in the matter. The statement by the ZRP follows recent media publications insinuating that the arrest of the Sunday Mail Editor was part of a conspiracy against the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo. Meanwhile, in a speech during the Business Environment Studies (BES) college’s mass communication graduation ceremony in Bulawayo, Professor Moyo said the decision to resolve the case through the legal route is at the heart of a constitutional democracy and is a reflection of the existence of the rule of law in Zimbabwe.
