Suppli-what? This week here on GUWG we’re focusing on prayer for the easily distracted (like me), using this handy little acronym as a guide: ACTS A = Adoration C = Confession T = Thanksgiving S = Supplication Today’s topic: SUPPLICATION. What exactly is “supplication”? Webster’s defines it as “to ask humbly and earnestly.” So, after you’re done adoring God, confessing your sins and giving thanks for all your blessings, it’s time to humbly and earnestly present your requests to God. For whom should we pray? Everyone (1 Timothy 2:1a). That includes world leaders, your boss, co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, other Christians — even our enemies (Matthew 5:44). For what should we pray? Everything (Philippians 4:6). The possibilities are endless. Here are just a few suggestions to help get you started: salvation for the unbelievers in your life healing for the sick food for the hungry comfort for the grieving peace in war-torn areas wisdom for those in authority protection from evil unity in the church your workplace your neighborhood your city your family your friends your enemies Still not sure what to pray? Ask the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is our 24/7 prayer advisor. Consult with him. “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” (Romans 8:26). You. And when you’re done doing all that, pray for yourself.
