Supplication for the Nation and the Leaders: Most of the time a person’s supplication to the Almighty is directed at seeking good things for his/her own selves i.e Give me power, give me position, make me rich, I want to have this or I want to have that etc. We are very self-centered; so much so that even our prayers seem to be infused with the odor of selfishness. It is important not to forget to pray for the well-being of one’s one country and the rulers who are in authority over them while praying for one’s one benefit. The rulers too are not perfect but that should not excuse us from praying for them and for the betterment of our nation. The lamenting old Seer Jeremiah and the Apostle Paul have some words of wisdom for us in the eternal book. Read for yourself here below these precious admonitions: ‘I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 The idea of praying for rulers, kings, or national leaders) has a twofold emphasis. First, it is a specific way to pray for all men, because the actions of a leader affect society as a whole. Second, it reminds us all that God is the ultimate Sovereign. He is in control, and our prayers affect decisions at the highest level. ‘But seek the welfare of the place where I have sent you into and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.’ –Jeremiah 29:7 (Emphasis Supplied) No matter where we were in the past, where we are now and will be in future we are to be thankful for the piece of land where our feet’s trod. We are to wish good of the land and give it a value by appreciating the shelter/security it provides. We should also work for the good of it ‘for the Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof’. May we learn to appreciate our nation and the beautiful planet Earth as a whole. May we learn to pray for our Leaders no matter of which political view they may be embracing etc. God bless you as you think upon it.
