TFTD~Duct Tape and Specimen Collector Pans Specimen collector pans can be a royal pain to deal with. Keeping the pan in place over the commode but under the seat without losing the contents can be a challenge. Add a squirming kid who doesn’t want to sit over one and you’ve really got a problem. Holding the pan still is the key. Duct tape or packaging tape can be used to hold it securely in place. Simply set the pan in place over the commode bowl then tape the flanges of the pan to the outer edge of the commode using a strip of tape 8-10 inches long over the flange and over the edge a few inches on each side. Be sure to fold the ends of the tape over, sticky sides together, to form an easy grip flap for when you’re ready to pull the pan off the commode and empty the contents into a sample container. The tape holds the pan in place and you can hold your child without losing your specimen!
