THE EAC SECRETARY GENERAL CEO’s ROUNDTABLE MEETING IN BUJUMBURA, BURUNDI, ON MONDAY 15TH JULY 2013 The Secretary General (SG) of the East African Community (EAC), in partnership with East African Business Council (EABC) and TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) is pleased to invite you to the SG CEOs Roundtable meeting, which will be held as a breakfast meeting, on Monday 15th July 2013, at the Rocka Golf Hotel, Bujumbura Burundi. The SG CEO Forum is a unique forum bringing together CEOs of businesses with the EAC SG, with the main objective of providing a platform for regular dialogue with the business community on how to improve the EAC integration process for business and trade. As a follow up on last year’s fora, it was decided that thematic issue based roundtable meetings be organised in order to foster faster implementations of the recommendations. The main objective of the SG Issues based CEO Roundtable will be to bring together the EAC Secretary General and CEOs from the specific sectors led by their relevant Sectoral Associations together with the key national ministries and officers from the EAC Secretariat to agree on an action plan for resolving the critical issues facing the business community that need to be urgently addressed at both national and regional level. The meeting will specifically focus on three thematic issues namely; Domestic Taxes Harmonisation, Harmonisation of Standards particulary the technical regulations as well as the harmonisation of Work/Residence regimes within the EAC region. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the private sector to get an update on the highlighted issues from the EAC Secretariat, Ministry of Finance, Burundi Bureau of Standards as well as the Immigration department and the Ministry of Labour. Thereafter, an action plan with clear timelines will be agreed upon, and a stakeholders roundtable to be established to follow up on the implimentation. The meeting is open to CEOs only.
