THE FINAL JUDGMENT: THE FINAL FATE OF THE WICKED: 1; The final phase of the judgment is the melting out of punishment to the wicked. According to popular teaching today, a wicked person goes to hell as soon as they die. But we have studied in Daniel and Revelation where the wicked do not receive judgment until after the 1000 years, and they are punished at the end of the 1000 years. How can this be true if a person is judged when he/she dies, if found lost, they go to hell at death? --We need to ask ourselves three questions, and answer those three questions. 1: When does the punishment of hell begin? 2: Where does the punishment of hell take place? 3: How long does the punishment of hell last? --Let us take a look at what Scripture says about this. After all, the fire of hell comes from God, and He should be able to answer these questions and many more for us about this very solemn event. --To what does Daniel say the wicked will be resurrected? Daniel 12:2; "To shame and everlasting contempt." --Shame is a painful sensation excited by guilt. Some Bibles say, everlasting abhorrence, which means to shrink from with horror. --What is the fate of the little horn? Daniel 7:26; The little horn is symbolic of all the wicked, who, according to Daniel, will eventually be consumed and destroyed. WHEN WILL THE WICKED BE PUNISHED? --According to the apostle Peter, when are the wicked punished? 2 Peter 2:9; "To reserve the unjust under Judgment for the day of Judgment." Under Judgment, been found guilty; they are on death row, waiting execution. If the wicked are “reserved”, on death row, for the final “Day of Judgment”, they cannot be burning in hell now. The judgment is the punishment. --When did Jesus say the wicked will be burned in the fire? Matthew 13:38-40; ". . . . . . therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it shall be at the end of this age . . . . they will gathered out of His Kingdom all things that offend . . . . . . and will cast them into the furnace of fire . . . . will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” --The Bible answers our first question. The Bible makes it very clear as when the wicked will be punished. They are not cast into the lake of fire “until” the end of the 1000 years. WHERE DOES THE PUNISHMENT OF WICKED TAKE PLACE: Some say that hell is going on in the center of the earth. Others say in a remote place out in the corner of the universe. The devil is pictured standing with his pitchfork, poking people in the fire continually. Obviously this is a fictitious medieval concept that has no place in modern thinking and no place in Biblical teaching. --Where does the Bible say the fires of hell will take place? Revelation 20:9: "And they went up on the breadth of the earth , . . . and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." --The wicked are standing on this earth in its chaotic condition. They have followed satan, and they surround the Jerusalem, the Holy city that has come down from heaven. As the wicked encircle the Holy City, fire comes down and destroys them. They are not inside the earth or in a remote place out in the universe. They are standing on the earth surrounding the New Jerusalem. --How does the apostle Paul describe the fires of hell?
