THE IMPERISHABLE,UNFADING AND UNDEFILED INHERITANCE FOR THE SAINTS IN HEAVEN; ( a) New body and( b) New Name in Heaven) 1 Peter 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,. The inheritance is a promise of a blessing to be extended in the future. 1. It is just like a will that has been executed promising future wealth. One mentioned in that will does not now enjoy all of those blessings but has the sure promise of them, as long as the will is not changed. 2. The inheritance of God has been promised through the last will and testament of Jesus Christ. A NEW BODY: In the book of 1 Corinthians, chapter 15, Paul talks about the resurrection and the resurrected body. In verses 35 and following, he states that our heavenly bodies will be different from our natural bodies, with some stark contrasts. Whereas our earthly bodies are characterized by mortality (being susceptible to death), our resurrected bodies will be characterized by immortality (not susceptible to death). Likewise, while our earthly bodies are susceptible to decay (corruption), they will become incorruptible (1 Corinthians 15:53). Also, where our natural bodies are prone to weakness (ask anyone who has reached 40 years of age or older), our resurrected bodies will be characterized by strength (verse 43). Death free body.Another comparison is that now we have a natural body, but then we will have a spiritual body. This probably doesnt mean that we will be like ghosts possessing no body at all and floating around unable to interact with things around us. After all, verse 49 states that we will have a body like Jesus’ resurrected body (see also 1 John 3:2). A NEW NAME IN HEAVEN In the Bible, there is only one reference to God giving us a white stone with a new name: “To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it” (Revelation 2:17).Abram to Abraham (Gen 17:5) Sarai to Sarah (Gen 17:15)Jacob to Israel (Gen 32:27-28)(Gen 35:10) Oshea (or Hoshea) to Joshua (Num 13:16)Simon to Peter (Mt 16:17-18) Lucifer (Isa 14:12) name was changed to Satan. These new names were given by God to reflect a change in a persons character and life. For instance, Jacob, which means supplanter (tries to take the place of or replace) was changed to Israel, which means God strives, after he wrestled or struggled with God and prevailed (Gen 32:24-31). Abraham, which means father of many nations, was given his new name by God to reflect the covenant He made with Abraham. Peter was given his new name, which means the rock, because he was going to be used by God to build the church. Lucifer was one of Gods chief angels. His name meant morning star or light bearer. However, when he rebelled against God and was cast out of Heaven, his name was changed to Satan, which means adversary. I believe that this points to what will also happen to us as believers when we get to Heaven. We will receive a new name to reflect a change in our character and life.
