THE INDIVIDUAL ROLE IN SOCIETY Unpleasant as the realization may be to egotist, very few individuals can be consider as more than incidents in the life histories of the societies to which they belong. Our species long ago reached the point where organized groups rather than their individual members became the functional units in its struggle for survival. The essence of the above statement is to remind ourselves of the nature and nurture controversy regarding the place of the individual in the society. Any society that succeed and become viable today was made happen by the people of that society and any society that is backward and retrogress in everything like ours was made happen by the people. We are where we are today because individual of us refuse to accept responsibility for the salvation of this once upon a time giant of Africa who has become the puppet and ridicule among comity of nations and more so, it is our reluctant attitude to take ownership of Nigeria, electing idiots, men who no capacity for leadership and have no business in power. This country of ours love to stay within the confines of their bondage and suffering to complain instead to rise up and shake off the chains and shackles of bondage and determine their own way of life, how they will be govern and make society a better place for all. Nobody will build Nigeria for us, it our collective responsibility to salvage. And it all start by making and holding our public office holder accountable and responsible. Karl Marx said long time ago that, men make their own history.......they do not make it just as they please; they do not make it under circumstances chosen by themselves, but under circumstance directly encountered, given and transmitted from the past. Though the human individual is dependent on his society, this by no sense implies that the individual is a passive recorder of his culture. We must not be passive but active in the affairs of our country and nation life. For so many years Nigerians have been sleeping and left the essence their life and issue of governance into the hands of challatans which as of today have a negative influence on the populace. It is high time we all get involve and let us all collectively design and determine the way forward. It is tragic and appalling that we have government who got almost everything wrong and the way left for Nigerian is to take ownership and accept responsibility for change and define and decide their own way of life and destiny. The aggregate wealth and progress of an individual who occupies a nation is the wealth and progress of that nation. We must look up to government for everything and also we must also not allow them to get away with any misdeed and any form of bad governance. Arise oh compatriot!
