THE KOCHS AND STALIN: RADICALLY CHANGING THE CLIMATE CONVERSATION If anything, the (as yet unnamed) climate-action Tea Party I’m proposing must be a force for radically changing our national conversation about climate. One important way of doing so is by recasting the billionaire funding of global-warming denial in its TRUE light: as a crime against humanity—and one worse in its potential consequences than the infamous genocides of the twentieth century. As part of that recasting, climate activists should be calling to CRIMINALIZE the funding of climate-change denial, with the penalties for large-scale infractions being as severe as death—or the worst punishment available under existing law. I realize that currently, prospects of passing such legislation are near hopeless, but I find calls for it essential to a “wake-up call” climate-action counter-narrative the public hasn’t heard. Can any who gets the climate science deny that massively funding its denial is a crime against humanity? And arguing we should actually criminalize that de facto crime against humanity of funding change denial is a marvelous aid to activists seeking to purge money from politics. Why? Well, what graver consequence of money corrupting politics than the potential extinction of the human race? By the way, arguments for criminalizing funding climate-change denial are precisely the sort of thing I expect Pierre Omidyar to give prominent space to, if he’s serious about practicing the kind of adversarial journalism now shunned by mainstream media. And a climate Tea Party MUST pressure him to do so. In the meantime, I’ll polish up my arguments by using the more limited forum Rob Kall of OpEdNews graciously affords me.
