THE LORD’S WAY Be Prepared-Watch and Pray Luke 21:34-36-And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. [This is Christ speaking in this passage; what He is here saying applies to all Christians, past, present, and future. Hearts “overcharged with surfeiting” means, weighed down (overcharged) with debauchery (surfeiting). “Cares of this life” refers to things which are not spiritual. “That day” actually points to the Second Coming, but can point to the Rapture, and death also. Jesus is saying, take heed brother/sister, pay attention, do not get weighed down by giving in to your sinful passions, which will thereby by cause you to feel guilty; don’t worry about life’s problems, they are temporary, compared to eternity; always look to Me, because I could return in the wink of an eye, or your life upon this planet could end at any second.] 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. [“That Day” will spring like a trap, no one knows when it is coming, so it is important to be always ready. This verse also proclaims what should be painfully obvious to each and everyone of us, that things will not turn out as man thinks they will.] 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. [We are to watch events that are occurring, and look at the Word of God as to what it says about these events, and we are to ask the Lord to give us discernment concerning this. “All these things that shall come to pass,” speaks of the Rapture of the church. We are “accounted worthy,” not because of a self-righteousness, but by the righteousness that is freely given to whomsoever expresses faith in Christ and His finished work upon Calvary, that alone is the key/criteria for being accounted worthy. One way or the other all believers will be with the Lord before the coming Great Tribulation. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18-But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. God bless you all. Pastor
