THE NÜRBURGRING IS THE NEXT CHALLENGE FOR AUGUSTO FARFUS After - TopicsExpress

THE NÜRBURGRING IS THE NEXT CHALLENGE FOR AUGUSTO FARFUS After his first podium of the year at the last race in Austria, Augusto Farfus can’t wait to get into his Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM and back on track at the Nürburgring this weekend for the seventh round of the series in the Eifel mountains. However, for Augusto and the entire BMW Motorsport family this will be a sad weekend, as missing from the racetrack will be Dieter Lamm, from BMW Team Schnitzer. Dieter died recently and his loss will be keenly felt by everyone. Explaining just what Dieter meant to him, Augusto said: “Dieter was such an important part of our racing family, so I cannot imagine how we will all feel when we arrive at the track and realise he will not be with us. I have such happy memories of working with him, especially when I won the Nürburgring 24 Hours with the team. Dieter was always positive and incredibly professional in everything he did. I looked forward to seeing his ready smile and to chat with him about everything that was important to all of us. My thoughts are with his family and the team at this incredibly difficult time. RIP my good friend.” The Nürburgring is a track Augusto likes a lot and has been successful on. Last year he started from pole and finished second, while in 2010 he was part of the BMW Motorsport winning team in the 24-hour race on the much longer, 20 kilometre Nordschleife track. Looking back and forwards Augusto said: “Last year it was a very strong race for us. Looking at what we have done this year and the way we have got the car going really well, I think we are heading in the right direction and hope the results will mirror this at the weekend.” The track is 3.629 kilometres long and, while the race is being held in the middle of summer, the weather can be anything from cold with driving rain and mists, to dry and sunny with temperatures in the thirties. However, the BMW Team RBM driver is just thinking about getting the best out of the car and commented: “This is always a very special place for me. I enjoy driving on the track whatever the conditions are. It is a challenge but a nice fun one. My aim is to try to at least repeat what we achieved last year.” This weekend the DTM action starts much earlier than usual on Friday and Saturday. The first time the cars are on track on Friday is for the roll out from 14.05 to 14.40. On Saturday the two free practice sessions are from 08.00 to 09.00 and 10.10 to 11.10. Qualifying will be held from 13.40 to 14.30. The race on Sunday starts as usual at 13.30 and is run over 49 laps.
