THE SONINKE... The soninke people, also called Sarakolé or Serahuli are a Mande ethnic group, who were the founders of the ancient empire of Ghana. Number of approximately 1.7 million. They can be found in the West African country of Mali {in the Nioro du Sahel region}, Mauritania, Senegal and the Gambia. Some of their diaspora who were world travelers and religious clerics, are also known as the Waite in countries like Ghana and Burkina Faso or the Wangarawa in Niger and Nigeria.
