THINGS I AM GUIDED BY Had I studied more, perhaps I would have better things to write about, you see a lot of things written about how to live, we read them and forget that we read them, we don’t practice most of them, we remain what we are, we really don’t want to change our selves. I have been impressed by a story, may be it is true to some extent , or it might be made up, but it gives you the meaning. And I practice it. Once a Sultan of a state was approached by his relatives, they complained that you had so many wise relatives, then why did you chose a slave as your advisor. The sultan said come I will show you. He took the group to the gates of the city, and outside the gate were some gypseys that had arrived and were camping, he asked one of his relatives, to go and find out about them, the man came back and said they were gypseys that had come from that town. The king asked how many are there, the relative replied, you didn’t tell me to enquire that. So the next man was sent , he came back , they were 50 people. The sultan said how many males and how many females, the man said you didn’t tell me to enquire that, and this way the sultan sent many of them, and at the end they would say you didn’t tell me to enquire that. Then the sultan sent his slave advisor. The slave came back and reported. That they were from so and so town and were stoping here and would move on to so and so town, there were so many men , so many women, so many children, so many cows, so many horses, so many poultry, two women were pregnant, and so on. The sultan said to his relatives , that I have him as an advisor, because he not only finds out what was told to him, but much more than that. I had a conductor or helper on my truck , and this fellow was called Munna Tutal, he had a problem with his speech, well when every some police man would stop the truck for a lift, then on the way Munna would find out who the man was where he was currently posted etc. He would start the conversation with Daroga Jee app kahan Tayenat hain. He was quite talkative despite his speech problem. When ever he had problems with the police he would prattle of I know so and so Daroga who is posted in such and such a place. This is just to tell you that Munna was a street smart man. I Like to imitate Munna , and the Sultans Slave advisor to some extent. In the gulf if ever I gave a lift to a person, I would have his verbal Bio data by the time I dropped him off. The other thing I was told once by my good old friend the Late Aziz Rehman father of Moiz Rehman that , three men were given strings, stop watches, and a weight, the men were scientist and a ordinary man. and they were told to find the height of the building. The scientist went to the top, one threw the weight and saw the time taken for it to land. And then calculated the height of the building. The second scientist tied the weight to the string and swung it like a pendulum, and calculated the time it took one oscilation, and so found out the length of the pendulum, and thus the height of the building. The third man went to the caretaker of the building, said you can have this stop watch, just tell me the height of the building. Well the ordinary man won, because there are simpler ways to do a thing. This might sound strange but I have this in mind always. You may be more educated than me, but that dose not mean you are more smarter than me. This again was a readers digest year book given by Late Aziz Rehman, it had a story that touched my heart. It was a true sorty, of an uneducated man who went to Canada with only an axe, the government wanted people to settle in Canada, so this man was given a 100 acres of land , some 80km from the nearest town. He went chopped down trees made a shelter, planted corn, caught animals in the traps he made, fished in the lake near his land, he managed to survive. And so the story goes on, he had a small vegetable farm, had corn, and life went on. He would go to the town sell the pelts of the animals he trapped. Then he wanted a wife, and the pastor of the town had a daughter who was also fond of adventure, he married her. She had an air gun, and off they went , taking some poultry with them. The wife would shoot squirrels , the pelts they would sell of the meat was ground to feed the chicken, the story goes on to say that they had three boys, who the wife taught at home, they brought a cow and so had milk. The boys grew up, they had dairy products. This old man bought a sea plane from an auction, learnt to fly it. He was 60 years when the doctor took his blood pressure it was of a 40 year old. He had very good health .Thrice his house went up in smoke, but thrice he rebuilt it. He bought an engine of a plane in an auction , he kept that , and although he didn’t use it, he would turn it every day so that it was in a good condition. The boys would fly of to town with their dairy products. He took water from that lake made a stream that had a paddle wheel across it, and he had power, he set up a saw to cut the timber, he had a problem he had made the belt with a home made rope , this rope when it became wet became tighter and broke the wheel that it was driving. He learnt this lesson the hard way, then he made a belt with leather thongs plated into a rope. When the engine of the plane conked out , he used the engine that he had bought a long time back, but was a bit heavier, All the Pilots said he would never be able to fly the plane with the heavier engine, he proved them wrong, for he mounted the engine such that it maintained the balance. Well in short Hats off to the man, he went into the wilderness with only an axe, and see the things he did, he was uneducated, but had the will power. He brought up a family, had a farm, dairy, poultry. This article gives me a lot of encouragement, you don’t have to have a lot of Degrees to do something, all you need is common sence, and the will power .The school Children of the town are taken to see this farm, and how the man made a saw mill, used the water, he also had a generator to power his home. Well I adore him. And that is why I made three planes, all put to an end by the foolish and jelous people, I will make the fourth plane and one day take to the air. The only thing that puts me off is that if an uneducated man has to spend time in Prison he is with the other Un educated Prisioners, the people having a Degree get the educated class treatment.they have a class of their own. So what I the senior Cambridge from SHERWOOD COLLEGE, will try not to get my self in trouble, or else will have to stay with the uneducated prisoners. My sincear thanks to the help that the Late Aziz Rehman had given me, he taught me many things, he was my neighbor in Sunny Bank in Nainital, We would go to the Clifs , he had a SLR Camera, it was the beginning of SLR system. I recentally got his son Moiz Rehman on the internet. I had no way to find out where Aziz was, until I saw a fellow called Moiz Rehman, I enquired if he knew Aziz, and thus we became friends, Moiz was 5 or 6 years then, I learnt that he had died 15 years ago, my heart weeps for him, for to me he was a big brother, and incidantley he was from SEM. The blue blazer boys that we learnt to love .REST IN PEACE AZIZ. G.Y.KHAN ( MULLAH ) 68. F.T.
