THIS IS LENGTHY. I APOLOGIZE. Friends and local internet, looking for insight: My current employer will 100% reimburse me to go back to school (depending on the major), possibly even including reimbursement for a different bachelors+masters. My passion is to make music, Id love for my full-time job to be a writer/performer/producer. The last couple years have been a hodge-podge of gigs and unfulfilling obligations, but starting in 2015 I want to go rogue and work on what matters most to me as a musician and artist. BUT, with our new family, it seems like pursuing something like computer science or engineering might make the pressures of parenthood more manageable sooner than putting my time into the arts (Im also generally interested in things like mathematics, creative problem solving, etc.). Its not that I believe that music cant pay the bills, but when I think of the opportunity I can take advantage of+my age+the kids and wife, it becomes a head-scratcher. In the end, I want to do whats best for my family, not just myself. If you were in my shoes, would you take the opportunity to study and pursue something new and different (saving the passion for later), or pursue your passion immediately, grinning and bearing the big unknown? **Disclaimer, I realize that pursuing a new avenue will not guarantee me a great job and great life, but I think we can all agree that STEM-related studies have a more reliable, stable and open job market. All opinions welcome. Thanks in advance for your insight :)
