I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. ----------- That is a promise. It is a promise addressed to a man, one man, not to all of his descendants. Much later God gave the Promised Land to the Israelites, but he gave them the land under a specific CONDITION. ----------- Leviticus 26:14-17 “‘But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you. ----------- When the Israelites turned against God, God cursed them and gave their enemies power over them to destroy them and kick them out of the land. After Solomons apostasy, this happened when the Assyrians destroyed the Northern nation Israel and carried off those 10 tribes into captivity. It happened in the Southern nation Judah when the Babylonians carried the 2 tribes into captivity and destroyed the Temple. The Jews had a religious revival in Babylon and began to follow Gods laws again, so they were able to return to the land and rebuild the Temple. Then over the centuries the Jewish religious leaders and most of the population once again became corrupt, and so according to the conditions of Leviticus 26, they were conquered by Rome. That is the time when Jesus was born. He preached fierce judgment to the Jews who were corrupt and rejected his teaching. When he first announced his mission in Nazareth, Jesus condemned the racist corrupt Jews who thought that they were better than the Gentiles. ----------- Luke 4:16-30 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’” “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.” All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way. ------------ Jesus made it a point to tell the Jews that the prophets Elijah and Elisha were sent to help Gentiles instead of disobedient corrupt Jews, and then the racist Jews were so offended that they tried to kill Jesus. Jesus later condemned entire cities of Jews. ------------ Matthew 11:21 Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ------------ Jesus spoke most harshly against the corrupt Jewish leaders, the Pharisees and Sadducees. ------------ Matthew 23:13-15, 27,28,33 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are....You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.... “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? ------------- Jesus prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple under the conditions of Leviticus 26. ------------- Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Matthew 24:1-2 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” ------------- This came to pass in 70AD when the Jewish revolt against the Roman occupation was crushed, the Second Temple was destroyed, and the Jews were scattered, just as they had been previously by the Babylonians. Jesus had told the Jews that those who rejected him as the Messiah, although they were racial descendants of Abraham, were not Gods Chosen People because they were spiritually the sons of Satan. ------------- John 8:31-47 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.” “Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” ------------- The Apostle Paul explained in his letter to the Romans that those of Israelite racial descent who deny Jesus as the Messiah are not the offspring of Abraham and do not share in Abrahams inheritance. ------------- Romans 4:16-18 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Romans 9:1-8 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen. It is not as though God’s word had failed. FOR NOT ALL WHO ARE DESCENDED FROM ISRAEL ARE ISRAEL. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” In other words, IT IS NOT THE CHILDREN BY PHYSICAL DESCENT WHO ARE GODS CHILDREN, BUT IT IS THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE WHO ARE REGARDED AS ABRAHAMS OFFSPRING. Romans 9:27-28 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved. For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality. ----------- The remnant of racial Israelites who will be saved are those who are Christians. The rest of racial Israel are not the chosen people of God. ----------- Romans 2:28-29 A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God. ---------- I am a Gentile by blood. As a follower of Jesus Christ I am a spiritual Jew, a member of spiritual Israel, a spiritual descendant of Abraham. The land of Israel was promised to Abrahams descendants, on condition that they followed Gods commandments. The land of Israel belongs to me.
