THIS right here is what happens when your reaction to an obvious threat is hesitation. As you can see in the video the officer verbally acknowledges that the suspect has a gun as he his running behind him and yet he doesnt fire on the suspect, who is running away from him, despite being in full uniform and identifiable as a police officer. And the inevitable happens, the suspect turns around and fires on the officer, striking him with the precision of a seasoned shooter. ONLY THEN does the officer attempt to return fire, ineffectively I might add. This is in large part due to the fact that he is dealing with the shock and pain of being shot at that point. There is no second place in this line of work. Hesitation will get you and other folks killed. To those of you not in law enforcement I ask that you consider this when you are Monday morning quarterbacking the next controversial police situation de jour from the comfort of your living room while watching the evening news. To my brothers and sisters in law enforcement I implore you to prepare yourselves for the next critical incident you will be involved in. Not just with physical skill, but with the development and exercise of the proper mindset as well as the ability to handle the aftermath of such situations. The aftermath which lately has been far more taxing for those involved than the deadly encounter themselves. Dont wait for your respective agencies to prepare you, do so yourself. If not for yourself, the man or woman to your left or right on the street then do it for your family. The loved ones who wish to see you return home the same way you left, alive and uninjured. If anyone deserves that, they do.
