There is some evidence many of the ancient Sumerian texts were Pythagorean in nature, that is they were designed to reflect sacred musical numerology, the Books The Pythagorean Plato and the Myth of Invariance go into much detail, the flood was represented by the infinite field of ratios generated by ratios comprised only of powers of two and 3 which has musical meaning, it is called in music theory the 3 limit intonation (Pythagorean intonation) The 8 kings from before the flood may be the center point, six squares and outer point in the 3 limit nucleus(which looks like a 6 step pyramid as seen from above), shown as a comment below, extending these ratios outward beyond what is shown gives an infinite great flood of larger more complex and hence out of tune ratios that drown all harmony in a sea of dissonance (the original reason for the flood was human kind was making too much NOISE), the numbers of years each king rules is probably a musical mathematical reference although they dont provide all the numbers here, they saw astronomical and musical math as one, the basic feature of Pythagoreanism which existed long before Pythagoras who was educated for many years in Egypt.
